As it is often the case, the damage occurred alongside the hands or key hole. Additionally, there were some cracks running from the damaged areas.
The treatment included the removal of aged obsolete fills, careful cleaning of dirty-ingrained cracks, localised consolidation and colour-filling of losses. A colour fill - epoxy resin bulked and tinted to the enamel colour and translucency - is then polished to the same sheen. Any numerals can be hand retouched if needed.
We work with metal conservators who may straighten the metal substrate if needed.
